How long does it take for an empoloyment to be issued?

The human resources office at university of hong kong told me that they submitted my application for an employment visa yesterday. I will be working at HKU as an assistant professor.

Does anyone know how long does take for an employment visa for the university teaching position to be issued?

Would the immigration department expedite their review process for people who are going to teaching at local universities?

Or can I contact them to ask them to expedite the review process for me?

    Thanks!

Barring any complications, employment visas take about 6 weeks. I don't think there's any way to expedite, unless perhaps your family name is Li?

Can you get an express service training/work visa for Hong Kong?

Before my company applied for my visa, one or two people had told me that the process could take as little as 4 weeks. The general concensus from those who had recently been through the process, however, was that it would take in the region of 6 to 8 weeks. In the end it took a full 8 weeks for my visa to be issued.

No. It takes as long as it takes.

Or put another way, from what I understand and my own experience, they meet the stated time-frames as long as your side has done the right paper-work.

Contacting them is highly discouraged by them as they will tell you nothing more than what you can read yourself. I suspect they want it all in writing and nothing in oral conversation will alter that process.

That doesn't mean that you can't consult with others of course on the process but they go by the policies they have in place and it is meeting those criteria that counts.

I'd be surprised if HKU doesn't fully know and comply with the paper requirements as they have many foreign professors working there and they know what is required.

I'd just relax and wait it out.

Slow? That's blindingly fast compared to many other countries.
