going on holiday whilst work visa is being processed

I signed a new contract and applied for an extension of my work visa about two weeks ago. I was given a slip of paper which said i would be informed by letter when to pick up my visa. I asked the lady how long it would take and she said "4-6 weeks" my problem is that my new job doesnt start till mid August and id like to go an holiday until then. im planning to leave Hong kong in two weeks time , but what happens if my visa hasnt been completed yet?
Can i just pick it up when I return in August? Do you need to pick it up on the specific date they give me in the letter or so you have a time frame?
    Thanks

From memory there is about a window of 4 weeks when you should pick it up. I had similar problem in that i was travelling constantly for work so never around when they were open in the end they called me and said i needed to pick it up pretty pronto.

Think if you let them know then there shouldn't be a problem...

Ok,thanks Charley - That's good to know. I was wondering if the letter was going to say "Come on this exact date, at this exact time, or you forfeit the visa" ? its strange because Ive heard of some people who went later than me, for the same job but got given a date then and there when to come back. My was just a vague "well inform you by letter"

Just to be clear, this "new job" is with the same employer or a different one from your original sponsor?

If it's a different employer then you need a transfer of sponsorship, not an extension of your visa.
