change of nationality while visa is processed

    Hong Kong here I come!!

It has been 1 day (lol) since my employer submitted my work visa application documents to the Immigration and I'm actually still waiting for the official paper contract from my employer (pending final approval from NYC and not sure how did they manage to send the forms and documents to the HK Immigration). I'm a bit excited, worried and scared and I also have 2 questions:

    1. visa process--- many threads say it takes about 6 weeks to process the work visa. however, my employer submitted my application to the Immigration without my signed paper contract, will this be an issue for the Immigration? My employer is a 1st tier investment bank.

    2. change of nationality--- I used my US passport to apply for the work visa and oops I actually just renounced my US citizenship at the US Embassy in Switzerland (lol, just trying to avoid overseas income tax). I'm currently holding a Swiss passport and I understand my work visa will be issued to my US passport, will this be an issue? How can I explain this to the Immigration and how can I transfer the work visa?

any advice will be very much appreciated! really hope experts PDLM & CARANG will read my thread.

Wish you fellows all the best!!

Sorry can't help on the visa (other than suggest that you contact ImmD), but renouncing one's US citizenship doesn't stop the IRS from coming after you for the next ten years. lol

I had my work visa endorsed on my EU passport when it came up to renewing my work permit to avoid paying excessive visa fees for China on the US.

Was asked to provide in addition to the requisite documents:
Proof of renunciation of former nationality
    Proof of (new) nationality

I explained that both countries accepted dual citizenship, provided a copy of my naturalisation papers (which I translated myself from French in a Word document) and sent everything back. Got the new visa in 2 weeks.

It will take longer as this is your first time applying - I believe 4-6 weeks is the norm, but there should be no issue with changing your nationality.

Re: The tax - you can also pay a lump sum - both methods are equally painful
