Marriage to person with a 3 Star HKID

I have a few questions. I hope someone out there can help.

1.Does marriage to a person with a 3 star HKID automatically entitles one to a dependent visa?

2.Is the financial status of the sponsoring spouse a consideration for the visa grant?

3.If the visitor's visa of the dependant visa applicant expires before the date for his/her interview with immigration, can he/she have it extended successfuly at the Wanchai Immigration Office short of going to Macao?

    4. what does the applicant bring to the interview called by the immigration?

    5. what is the duration of stay for a dependent's visa?

    Thanks for all your help!

Thundacatchergo's answer to 2) in WRONG

The correct answer is YES - because I am on a dependent visa from a 3 star HKID holder. When I questioned it the reply was " she is sponsoring you so is financially responsible by the rules. " We just made the paperwork match what they wanted.

    3) The answer is - they will temporary extend if you have need to take a trip out of HK and return. If your not going anywhere their advise is don't bother to extend it. They are not going to deport you. THIS also happened to me.

    4) There is a list of required documents on the application and in any further meetings they will indicate what is needed on the invitation to see them.

    5) May be correct . I had 1 yr the first year and applied for 3 years the second time which was granted. It may be different for certain nationalities.

Good luck with the application - My wife had a file as big as a Harry Potter paperback book and is a Mainland Chinese, divorced from a HK resident but has PHKID and has a " hobby " income. I got my visa and you will also I am sure. They are really just looking for marriages of convenience.

    Thanks for the advise.

BTW what income level is expected of the sponsor? How long did it take the immigration to process your application?

There are no laid down levels as far as I can see .
They are not looking for millionaires that's for sure.
Just make sure the application shows you both have enough to live.

    Takes 4 - 8 weeks I think.

sorry Boris, the immigration wasn't interested in knowing our financial situation when we applied. Maybe its different for different people? We were married before we moved to Hong Kong.

When did you apply? And just out of interest what passports do you hold?

I always wonder if they are not very clear about the exact requirements so they able to accept and turn down who they want without any hassle. Judging by what I've heard of immigration at the airport here, I wouldn't be surprised if a major consideration is where you are a citizen of. I.e non-whites/east-Asians get a much harder time.

I'm not saying this is what they do.. but it has crossed my mind.

    probably right. white canadian.
we applied at the chinese embassy in the US in 2006 and got approved in about 6 weeks. The HKID card holder didnt even step foot in the embassy. It was easier than a tourist visa to Russia.

    Interesting

Even though I still suspect what I said in my previous post, I wonder if you applying at the embassy in the US had anything to do with it. Maybe the staff there were just incompetent
