The benefit is simply that the visa is in your own right and is not dependant on you remaining married to a HK resident (of any type - doesn't matter if on a visa or non-citizen PR or citizen)

That is correct. The only Dependant Visa holders who cannot work are those whose sponsors are on Study Visas.
I'm leaning towards applying the Dependent Visa now. It's definitely easier than the QMAS.
For some reason, I always thought that Dependent Visa holders were not allowed to work or open a business.
I asked IMMD to be certain I could open and earn in HK with that visa. Still waiting for their response.
How more explicit could their website possibly be?Conditions of Stay
16. Dependants of the following persons are not prohibited from taking up employment in the HKSAR:
1. Hong Kong permanent residents;
2. persons who are not subject to a limit of stay (i.e. residents with the right to land or on unconditional stay);
3. persons who have been admitted for employment (as professionals, for investment to establish/join in business or for training); and
4. entrants under the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme or the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.
17. However, dependants of persons who have been admitted into the HKSAR to study are prohibited from taking up employment in the HKSAR unless they have obtained prior permission from the Director of Immigration.
18. All dependants do not require prior permission from the Director of Immigration to study in the HKSAR.
Hi all,
Does anyone know if there are any specific rules about not applying for work whilst you are waiting for your dependent visa?
I am in HK on tourist visa awaiting my visa (I was told by IMMD that this was ok) and have been looking for work. Have heard that I may not even be allowed to look for work although I can't find anything on the IMMD site which says anything to that effect.
Any advice would be great!! I don't want to ruin my chance of getting a visa by applying to work.
Thanks
In practice it's OK (in that ImmD aren't likely to object), but potential employers may not be convinced. They may well say, thanks, but apply again when you've actually got the visa.
MY APOLOGIES IF IT IS ASKED BEFORE. I WANT TO ASK IF SOME HAS HONG KONG ID CARD WITH STATUS RIGHT TO LAND MEANS HE HAS UNCONDITIONAL STAY,ALLOWED TO WORK & BUSINESS AS WELL. MY QUESTION IS THAT CAN THAT PERSON WITH RIGHT TO LAND STATUS SPONSOR HIS/HER SPOUSE LIVING IN SOME OTHER COUNTRY?
IS THERE A REASON WHY YOU ARE YELLING AT US????
please do not use capital letters to write an entire post. it is like yelling at someone.
afaik, you can sponsor your spouse as a dependent if you have RTL. but i am not 100% positive on that. best thing to do is to ask immigration. they are usually quite helpful.
