    Dependent Spouse Visa

    My apologies if I'm asking something that has already been asked before, but my wife and I are relocating to Hong Kong soon. She will be getting sponsored through the company that is hiring her and I will be getting a dependent spouse visa. Does that enable me to work once I get there or will I need to be sponsored by an employer first? How big of a process is that?

    Thanks!

    It has been answered many, many times before. But the short answer is no - dependents granted through virtue of a spouse with an Employment Visa do not have the right to work and would need to go through the same process as their spouse to get their own Employment Visa. If you can find an employer that has been through the process before then it's not really a big deal (a couple of forms and letters and a 4-6 week wait, but make sure you bring your educational certificates with you) - the tricky bit can be finding an employer who wants an expat, but that depends on what your field of work/expertise is.

    I think it depends on whether or not her employement visa as any conditions attached to it. We moved here for my husbands work, I was granted a dependant visa and have worked with no additional visas for the past 3 years. I believe we fall under "c" below (from the HK immigration FAQs)

    Q5: Can dependants admitted under the dependant policy take up employment in Hong Kong?

    Q5: Can dependants admitted under the dependant policy take up employment in Hong Kong?

    A5: Dependants of the following persons are not prohibited from taking up employment in the HKSAR:

    a. Hong Kong permanent residents;
    b. persons who are not subject to a limit of stay (i.e. residents with the right to land or on unconditional stay);
    b. persons who have been admitted for employment (as professionals, for investment to establish/join in business or for training); and
    d. entrants under the Capital Investment Entrant Scheme or the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme.
    However, dependants of persons who have been admitted to study are not permitted to take up employment unless they have obtained prior permission from the Director of Immigration

    Yes, assuming that Immigration is persuaded the the marriage is genuine and not just made for the purposes of getting a visa. You will need to show:
    - your marriage certificate (with an English or Chinese translation if it is not in English or Chinese)
    - proof of the seriousness of your relationship (i.e. photos from holidays together, meetings with family, passport stamps showing holidays together, etc)
    - evidence that your husband has sufficient money or income to be able to support you

    dependent visa and work

    Appreciate more details as I am in similar situation. I will be relocating to HK to work. The hiring company will take care of visa and work permit for me and a dependent visa for husband. Will hubby need to apply for anything else in order to work? What is process and where can i get info? I am hoping to get the company to help with application. Thanks

    Once your husband has a Dependant Visa he can work (or study) freely without further paperwork. The process for applying for your Employment Visa and your husband's Dependant Visa, plus details of the supporting documents required are here: The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department

    Umm.....after finding out that a Dependent Visa holder can work or own a business in HK, I wonder if anybody can help me whether it is necessary applying the QMAS visa in my case.
    I intend to open an IT services business and since I don't have HK$7 million handy, I can't go the Investment Visa route. My wife is a HK PR (or citizen?) and from what I'm reading on this forum, I can simply apply for a Dependent Visa, which only takes 6 weeks and a lot less documentations required.
    The QMAS still requires annual renewal. So, what benefits does it offer from the Dependent Visa?
