Canadian with Macau citizenship working in HK

Hi everyone I'm a Canadian planning to move to Hong Kong. I also hold a Macau citizenship ID. What is the most straightforward way to work and stay in HK, do I need a company-sponsored work visa or I can work under my Macau ID, thanks!

Well, you have the right to a stay of 180 days in Hong Kong (assuming that Macau considers you a Chinese national with Right of Abode in Macau). I'm not sure if this includes the right to work, but the reverse is not true, so it seems reasonable that Hong Kong would require a work visa for you. I do know that Hong Kong requires MSAR passport holders to apply for a study visa (see http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/faq_ipoe.htm, Q4).

If you do apply for a work permit in Hong Kong as a Chinese National, you'd probably need to get this first: http://www.dsi.gov.mo/documents/sar_vp_e.html

    Ok, found it here: http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas_8.htm

For entry to work, study, establish or join in any business, take up residence or to stay in the HKSAR as a visitor longer than the allowed visa/entry permit-free period, Macao residents will require visas/entry permits.

    Hello all,

Do you mind sharing the website to apply for a work permit with Macao citizenship? I'm on the same boat as you.

Can I work in Hong Kong with a visiting permit?

There are a couple different schemes to do this, I guess it depends on what type of visa you are trying to get.

For EAP, I think this is the correct form:

    http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/id990a.htm

And here is a checklist, which includes documents required from Macao:

    http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/id991.htm#VII

There are other schemes as well, see http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hkvisas.htm

What do you mean by visiting permit? If you enter Hong Kong as a tourist or visitor, then no - you usually can not work.

    Thanks Ice,

Would it be easier if I just apply for the Quality Migrant Scheme through my Canadian citizenship?

Basically I'm a Canadian citizen and been living here since when I was 6. I just got my Macao citizenship last year because I was born there.

A company in Hong Kong is arranging an interview with me but they told me they do not sponsor working visas. My interview is in April and now I need to find the fastest way to get a working permit thru Quality Migrant Scheme by applying as a Canadian or is there an easier way to apply work permit as a Macao citizen?

Probably. I don't think that there is a difference between how they treat Macao SAR passport holders and Canadian citizens under QMAS...

I am not sure. From the guidebooks on visas, the impression I get is that there is generally no difference between a Chinese National with ROA in Macao vs a foreign national when it comes to any type of visa (other than that those from Macao can stay as visitors for 6 months).
