    I'm sure if your employer really wants you to move to HK they will do everything in their power to help you bring your family.

    But in any case it would be a heck of a lot easier (and cheaper for you and your employer) just to nip into a solicitor's office and sign a piece of paper.

    You mention your child is only 8 months old and school is still way off.

    Trust me, its not way off at all. I have just been through the horrors of it all getting my son into a school. Even the kindergartens are a hassle.

    If you plan to stay in HK more than a few years, you really must plan kindergartens and schools quite early. Yes I understand the visa is number one right now, but as soon as that is over and you are settled down, its time to start looking at schools. Unless you are sure you will not be in HK in a few years. Welcome to HK!
