    Dual citizenship

I have a full British citizen passport and I also have full ROA (HKID) in Hong Kong as I was born in Tai Po. Am I able to get a Hong Kong Passport as well?

For travelling purposes I use my British passport for entry into Hong Kong I use my HKID but for China travel, I use my China "return home" ID card.

Are there any benefits for me obtaining a Hong Kong passport or keep my British passport (which expires in 9 months time)

If your HKID has *** on it then you can almost certainly get a HK Passport.

Not renewing your British Passport doesn't affect you British Citizenship - you have that unless and until such time as you explicitly renounce it.

As to whether having an HKSAR Passport adds anything much, I'm not aware of anything much - there may be one or two countries you can get to now without a visa that you would need one on your British one. But there are certainly plenty still where you need a visa on a HKSAR and don't on a British (most notably the USA).

There's no reason you shouldn't have both passports (except the cost).

Yes my HKID is three stars ***

I heard that I can renew my British passport at the Consulate ... They'll sort everything out for you for a fee ... Is that correct?

Well in that case I might as well apply for a HK passport as well. Feel like a double agent .. LOL!

Yes you can renew your passport at the Consulate. Details here: Applying for a UK passport in Hong Kong

Many tens of thousands of people hold HKSAR passports and another one (UK, Australia, Canada, USA) - you're really not at all unusual.

Yes, you can go to Russia with the HKSAR passport without a visa where you would need to obtain a visa in advance with your British passport. There are several other countries with similar arrangements but you'd have to look it up.

Ah yes - I'd forgotten about that curious deal with the Russians. I still reckon the British one wins with visa-free to the USA and some European countries that the HKSAR needs a visa for.
