Macau Visa for HK Permanent Resident

Can the HK permanent resident kid (below 11 yrs, so no HKID) with the foreign passport get the one year visa on arrival in Macau as same as the HK Permanent ID holder?

    Thanks.

I am not sure. If the child was eligible for an HKSAR passport, there would be no problem (http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/hksarp.htm#b) but I am not sure how one would apply for an HKPIC for a child under 11 otherwise. (The specific form, http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/rop3.htm , says it is only for use with an HKSAR passport application.)

I guess you could apply for a "Holder's eligibility for Hong Kong permanent identity card verified" in the child's passport (see http://www.immd.gov.hk/ehtml/faq_roaihksar.htm Q3 for specifics) and see if Macau would accept that.

I think the kid will need a photo Hong Kong Permanent Identity Card in order to go to Macau, or a Hong Kong Re-entry permit is acceptable too. The HKSAR passport isn't acceptable for Macau unless it's for transit to a third country, it's a weird rule they have.

Can your child's foreign passport have access to Macau visa-free? If yes then there isn't any issue at all.

    Macau Visa

    Nope,

The kid would get a 30 day to 90 day Visa stay in macau depending on your nationality,as he does not have an ID.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks. So the one year visa is only applicable to those who have Permanent ID and NOT for the child (under 11) even though whose passport has a label "Holder's eligibility for Hong Kong permanent identity card verified".

I am not 100% sure as the Macau government websites are confusing and messy.

But do you really need the 1 year stay in Macau? If it's just a short trip there is nothing to worry about.

The DSI website states that the visa-free one-year stay is applicable for:

    Hong Kong SAR residents holding:

    (i) Hong Kong Identity Card with symbols “*”, “***”, or “R”,

(ii) Hong Kong Permanent Resident Identity Card, or

    (iii) Return Permit

These are the only people who can stay for a year visa-free. Chops in passports don't count.

I would also want to know why you would be spending such a long time in Macau ... I hope you're not wanting to work there without a local work permit, as the Macau authorities can be really vicious with illegal workers (no matter what an employer might try to tell you) ... the olden days of it being OK to work there if your paperwork was already in the pipeline have long gone (unfortunately efficiency hasn't arrived yet!). 4 - 6 months is currently standard for processing a Macau working visa.

Note that a child who is eligible for HKPR can get some kind of ID from the Registration of Persons Office - you might want to check with them.

    Resurrecting an old thread here.

So, someone with a Right of Abode or Right to Land can stay for 12 months in Macao without requiring anything special. I've looked at Wikipedia and it says that it's fine to study in this 1 year period so that a student visa is not required.

There are no advantages in regards to aquiring the right to work or easier PR etc in Macao through any HK status, right? Does living there for a year taking the ferry back and then going back across ring any alarm bells? That'd be an automatic 1 year extension so 2 years of stay in Macao in two trips seems a bit crazy.

Also is it just me or is the macao immigration website quite hard to navigate compared with the Hong Kong one? I am after information on how easy/hard it is for someone to apply for a work visa there (With RTL in Hong Kong which I don't think makes any difference, but the 1 year stay thing makes me want to double check that..).
