Work Visa .. without a sponsor?

I understand to get a Work Visa you need a company to sponsor you but I've seen help wanted ads that state they would NOT sponsor a prospective employee.

Hmmm, bit of a Catch22 there.

Can someone please explain to me if you can indeed get a Work Visa without a sponsor? If so, is it more difficult or about the same if you had one.

Sorry if this such a dumb question. I've just begun to explore all these matters and really appreciate your input. Thank you.

You can try applying for the Quality Migrant Admission Scheme:
The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department

If you meet certain requirements, it's basically like applying for permanent residence in the US, and it lets you live and work in HK without other sponsorship.

And once you've stayed 7 years you can apply for ROA like anyone else in HK.

If they will not sponsor then they require you to hold an immigration status that allow you to work:

    - Right of Abode
    - Right To Land
    - Dependant Visa (dependant on anyone except someone on a Study Visa)
    - QMAS visa holder
    - CEIS Visa holder
    - Employment Visa under the non-local graduate scheme (i.e. you are an overseas new graduate from a HK university)

Details of all of these at The Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region - Immigration Department

You can find plenty of experience of people here on QMAS by using the Search function.
