    China Return Home Pass

    just curious......

both father and mother resides in hong kong.
father is chinese with HKSAR passport and hk permanent resident.
mother is caucasian with australian passport.
mother is on a depandent visa in hong kong.

if they have a child in the Sydney, will the child get a China Return Home Pass and a HKSAR passport?

when mother is eligible for permanent residence and Australia allows dual citizenship, can the mother get a HKSAR passport without giving up her australian passport.

As for the child, depends on the father's immigration status in Australia, if he is a permanent resident of Australia or an Australian citizen, and the child is an Australian citizen at birth, then it won't be a Chinese citizen and therefore can't get a HKSAR passport and can't get the return pass.

I think Australia allows dual citizenship, but naturalizing as Chinese will force her to renounce her Australian citizenship. So for what you asked, it is no.

assume the father is not an australian citizen and also not a permanent resident of australia. father and mother both resides in hong kong.

i thought hong kong allows dual citizenship. so why does the mother need to renounce her australian citizenship.

Because she is not a Chinese citizen. Those who are not Chinese citizens are required to renounce their nationalities before they apply for HKSAR passport.

I agree with all the above responses.

I can't see why they would chose to have the child in Australia in this case. If they have the child in Hong Kong then it gets ROA, Chinese Citizenship and Australian Citizenship, doesn't it?

OK, fair enough. Sorry for prying.

But I believe the consequences are as the other posters posted.
