Seriously, do you think he can earn a good living in HK? Might be better for you to marry him and go live in France, where atleast he has a social security net to fall back on.

    No

    >> another extension of 90 days

Possible, but immigration will suspect and can refuse.

Read this thread: I want to marry my HK girl. Maybe you will have a different ending.

Have you looked into language teaching? I would suggest researching all of this before planning any big moves, and have employment, including visa sponsorship, lined up and completed before entering Hong Kong. It would also be a good idea to get some sort of language teaching certification like the TESOL before coming over, it would make getting a job a lot easier. Now with that in mind, he could potentially come over on a tourist visa. You are allowed 90 days, but the Hong Kong immigration website even explicitly states that if you need more time than that, just take a day trip over to macao and when you come back to Hong Kong you will have another 90 days, so it isn't a sneaky way to get around the rules or anything. Also, I have known quite a few people that have been in Hong Kong on a tourist visa and have worked under the table, and have done so for a number of years just fine. But this is ILLEGAL and I can't condone it, however it does happen.

    1. Can you please link to the HK IMMD page that states you can go back and forth between Macau and get your visa extended? Really interested to see a government actually encouraging people to esentially cheat the system.

    2. The OP stated their boyfriend is from france. I assume that means their native language is French. I doubt getting a TESOL (Teaching ENGLISH as a second language) cert. is going to help them.

To the OP: As mentioned by other posters your boyfriend can go to Macau and/or Shenzhen and come back in for 90 days stamp in their passport. HOWEVER this will not last forever. If they are white it generally will be able to go on a few more times than other colours, but I would still expect immigration to get suspicious around 1 year.

Of course as a tourist your boyfriend cannot work, however if he holds skills a local person cannot provide he may qualify for a work visa.

Does he have a degree of any type? I doubt he would get a visa just for joining a band or teaching French (unless he has a degree in the subject and a international school hired him)

True but then he still won't be able to get a 'good' job with his background.
