what a dependant visa can do?

    1. Can one with a dependant visa start a home/small business?

Somewhere in this section said this is possible.

    2. Can one with a dependant visa take a part time or contract based job?

    3. Can one with a dependant visa take a tax refundable study?

BTW, if possible, could such study be a professional trainning course?

    4. whatelse opportunities can a dependant visa offer?

    a. Only if their spouse is a permanent resident (but this can depend on a number of personal factors. E.g the couples combined income and savings)

Well, is there anything called student visa? If my spouse lands up in hongkong in dependent visa with me, what are the options for study or work? And I'm not a permanet resident. Plan to move to Hong KOng in next month with work permit.

I understand that with a dependent visa (with non PR spouse), you can't work, but you can study (in general).

Correct. Look at page 12 onwards of this document: http://www.immd.gov.hk/pdforms/id(e)937.pdf

Dependent Visa - Allowed to write and publish Books

I am on dependent visa... my wife used to teach back home and now wants to publish some of her earlier teachings (math and physics mainly) as books in Hong Kong for school children.
Is she allowed to do that?

I'm confused... You have the dependent visa or your wife? And does whoever the dependent is dependent on hold a permanent HKID or some other status (e.g. employment visa)?

I'm wondering if you know dependant visa holder can take up an internship program or not
I'm holding dependant visa, my husband hasn't got his PR yet, only working permit now.
    Thanks

Does that mean wives with Dependant Visa status can still work for their employers that they used to work for back home? In other words, start up a new office here but work from home???

No. If they are emplyed in HK (i.e. they do their work in HK) then they need an Employment Visa.

(The exceptions being pre-July 2003 Dependents and Dependents on Permanent Residents both of whom have no restrictions on working.)
