Location advise needed when my work is at the airport

    Hi all,

I will be relocating soon to Hong Kong to work at Hong Kong’s International Airport, to be more specific at Cathay Pacific City.

I am wondering what areas should I consider to live at when I arrive in Hong Kong?

I am concerned if I live too close to my work then I am away from where it all happens e.g. pubs, restaurants, shops, entertainment etc leaving me bored in the evenings as my work location appears to be a bit far out from where it all is. I am looking to pay 15-18k HKD.

Socializing will probably play an important role for me given that I am young, free, single and knowing no one or having friends.

    OR

Should I consider living in a serviced apartment for a couple of months to better familiarise myself with the city and area of work? If so then what serviced apartments do you recommend when you can sign a 2 month or worse case scenario a 6 month lease? My budget is about 15k HDK a month.

Advise and recommendations is very much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Johnny

If you have no idea, then definitely rent a serviced apartment for a month (a month should be sufficient).

Tung Chung is obviously the closest place - there are advantages to living there, with cheaper rent being one of them. Maybe a half-way option could be somewhere like Olympic.

Obviously living on HK Island is great to socialise, but the more expensive rent and the daily commute could become a pain.

i would also consider discovery bay and park island, park island being better connected to the city

do NOT agree at all that park island is better connected to the "city".

    db has:
a 24 hour ferry service to central
    ferry to mui wo
    ferry to peng chau
    bus to the airport
    bus to tung chung
    bus to sunny bay

i don't know, but that seems fairly well connected to me.

Being a young single guy, I dont thing DB or Park Island would be good choices for the OP.

I would suggest somewhere like Tsing Yi or Olympic. These areas themselves are not really centre of the action, but being on the Tung Chung line makes it convenient for the OP to get to work and the nightlife of central.

There are circular buses such as S1 and S64 that go between Tung Chung MTR and Cathay City.

    Totally agree with that

Also from Tsing Yi or Olympic you have bus to cathay city.

But I think it will be better if you book a service apartment for a couple of months to check by yourself where is more suitable for you to live
