Unhappy real estate agency/serviced apartments near HKU

    Helle everyone!

I will study in HKU from september to december as an exchange student.
Halls of residence at the university are unfortunately full and I have to find accommodation on my own.
I will share the flat with a friend, that's why I am looking for a two beds flat, near hku, at a price range for 7k-10k HKD a month.
We will book a hotel room in western HK, in order to make the research easier.
So... what's your advice for 2 french guys ? Are there specific real estate agency or serviced apartments that we should check first in HK?

    Any advice is welcome!

hku website should have a search facility for private accommodation - probably be a better option given your budget.

how near to hku do you have to be?

the location of sai ying pun might be a viable option.

    thanks for your reply!
hku website only provide a flatshare service and a few expensive hotels/serviced apartments. Sharing a flat is likely the last option, we 'd rather to find an flat/serviced apartment first.

We would like the place to be within a walking distance of hku or 25/30min max using public transportation. By the way, the landlord of the nest -serviced apartment in kowloon- told me he has a 2beds room available for 960$ monthly. The nest is within 100 meters from Prince Edward MTR Station, he told me there is an express bus that goes to hku directly. I don't know about that, someone know how much time it takes to go to hku by that express bus from central kowloon ?

Well, Im gonna look in sai ying pun for rental and serviced apartments.
And I wonder... renting a flat for only 4 months is doable or almost impossible?

have you thought about putting yourself on the waiting list for patrick manson (sassoon road) of hku? this is what a friend of mine did as she arrived in hk with no accommodation - she was not in a hotel for long.

i think u will find it very difficult to find ordinary private accommodation for just 4 months - serviced apartments are better in this respect.

nevertheless, there are lots of bedsits available in sai ying pun (so i've been told by friends) for around $3-4k per month but your best bet would be to visit one of the small independent agencies and these do not have websites.

as for 'the nest' - that is news to me about an express bus...what is the frequency of this bus, have you checked?

have absolutely no idea how useful this website would be for you as i have only just found it on google but have you tried Rooms for Rent Hong Kong - 3000 Room Rental & Roommate Ads
