I stayed at Cozy Studio (Wanchai) and Studio Studio (Sheung Wan). Both crappy but you get what you pay for.
You definitely should have a look at their locations and rooms before you rent, the pics on their website look way too good.

have seen cozy before and totally agree about the pics!

however very friendly and helpful staff and brilliant location.

obviously the size of the units differ, even within each price category, but i remember one place was so small you could sit in bed and still fry an egg...

I helped a relative find a place at The Nest. It's on Kowloon side, but is literally across the street from Prince Edward station, which directly takes you to Central in 15min.

The place is well-maintained, the decor is nice and the bathroom spacious for this price. It's a quiet part of Prince Edward that is next to a police station, with good, cheap food around. The only drawback is that it's a 5th floor walk-up.

I am staying at Studio Studio in Sheung Wan and I couldn't advise more strongly against it. I can deal with the small space but the management are belligerent.
It's meant to be a serviced apartment and cleaned weekly but I've been here a month and my room has been cleaned once. When I moved in the TV and fridge both weren't working. It took them one week to replace the TV and I ended up buying my own fridge. When I call the management to try and sort out any issues they basically hang up on me. I've emailed them but they do not respond. The windows in my room are boarded up, which I didn't know before moving in. It means there is no light and the smell from lack of ventilation is awful. I would not recommend anyone move into Studio Studio on Mercer St Sheung Wan
