For the budget that you have been given, you could live in a number of secure villa complexes in Sai Kung, that I have never heard of any of them being broken into. And I have lived in, and been associated with the area for more than a decade. Those that got robbed, which I can count on one hand, were pretty makeshift houses, ie easy to break into. There's much better quality around than those, common sense applies, obviously .

When looking for quality housing in the 40 - 60K price range, look at Floral Villa's which are gated and secure, with watchmen, gate staff etc and they have under cover parking right by your homes door for 2 cars, like a "normal " house.

That's where I would look if I had to rent....

You won't find Gold Coast on those types of websites - Sino runs the rentals themselves.

    See Goldcoast.com.hk.

Costa Bello is another sec ure complex that you could consider, less than 5 minutes walk from the heart of Sai Kung town, which will come in very handy if you plan to socialise with the Steamers ( bar )crowd...etc

Great view of the Sai Kung harbour from these, you can literally fish off your lounge room accessed sun deck, and all the ground floor apartments of 1300 - 1400ft2 ( 3 bedroom ) have their own private court yard for parties and BBQ entertaining. Quite good if you manage to find a contemporary decorated one....

Not sure what the rents are here at the moment, but based on recent sale prices, I would hazard a guess that they would be in the high $30's to mid $40's at the moment. Under cover parking is extra here.

If your husband needs to travel to the airport frequently he might struggle living in Sai Kung though. It's the main reason I don't live there, despite thinking it's a great place and loving the hiking around there.

Don't bother with Gold Coast Kate, I listened to the advice on this site and stayed there for a month when I arrived - the commute becomes very annoying, very quickly. The public buses take 40-50 minutes to Gold Coast, are not comfortable (the driving quality is atrocious, the drivers love to stamp on the brake and accelerator) and the residence shuttle buses are not frequent enough to cover your husband as he works late.

Stick to the locations you are looking at, you won't regret it. Ignore the advice about Gold Coast, I wish I had!

Kate - he missed the bus once and now write this crap on every suggestion I make. hundreds of better organised people love it here. By the way, they do also do serviced apartments, so perhaps come for a month and try before you buy!

Looked at the Serviced Apartment list there as well last night.

    Thanks The Brit.

I'm thinking it may be a miss anyway. Looking at the apartments, they're not much bigger than the one we have an offer on now, only a bit further away.

Will keep it in mind if we get stuck on this one though.

Sai Kung we're going to need a car and not too many nice places, coming up as available on that area.

We're also going to extend our search to Clear Water Bay. Any thoughts on nice complexes out there worth looking at?

Going to do a trip out there in the next day or two just to have a look around and get a feel for it though.
