Where would you live if you were us?

    Hi everyone,

Moving to HK next month (fun!) and would LOVE some advice on where you would recommend us to live taking into account the following details:

    - We are 27 & 29 years old
    - We have an accommodation allowance of around $50,000
    - Ideally would like 2 BDRM for if we have friends stay
    - (May have a small dog - still in process of deciding whether to bring her - thoughts?)
    - Like to go out in the evening..
    - Like being active
    - We are from Auckland, New Zealand
    - Partner will be working in Causeway Bay

Any feedback you have would be much appreciated! Also, please don't think I am lazy I have been reading through loads of other posts to see what comments have been put to people who asked similar questions on the site.. however everyone seems to have a different budget/kids etc...

    Thanks!

Given, your allowance, age and work location (causeway bay) i'd say Causeway Bay / Happy Valley / Wanchai / Midlevels

    Happy Valley.
In your budget, close to the track, close to dog park, close to food and nightlife and walking distance to CWB.

Happy Valley is good for you.

Another possibility would be Mid Levels, near one of the paths that lead up to the peak so you can walk your dog.

For your dog, I would get settled in first and then bring her over Lots of places you in HK you can also do hikes in the weekends.

Wan Chai. Something like J-Residence might suit you. Very close to work for your partner - can walk, cab, bus, tram or taxi it.... lots of restaurants and bars around. Lots of supermarkets. Close to Central, close to Soho... There is a seedy side to Wan Chai, on Lockhart Road & Jaffe Road but if you live a couple of streets away you don't have to be exposed to it.

I think Wan Chai would be quite an unpleasent location for a couple to live, especially for a women, and especially if they want a place that's also suitable for a dog. The suggestion of considering Tin Hau makes more sense though - I had not thought of that.

Tin Hau would be good location-wise but it may be difficult to find anywhere that expensive in Tin Hau.

If you're a young couple working in Causeway Bay and need to find a way to use up 50k a month on housing, then you're going to have to look at Happy Valley, Tai Hang Road or Jardine's Lookout. Those areas will probably be more convenient for walking the dog as well, if you bring it.

Ignore randy1, I don't think he's ever actually been to HK, he just likes to post stuff

i second mat's suggestions. happy valley, mid-levels & jardine's lookout (more removed from the hustle and bustle but within a few minutes mini-bus ride). for your budget, you may also get facilities in the building such as gym & pool.

tin hau is hugely underrated and you can easily find 50k places if you go up tin hau road, or for example chose the penthouses in the building atop tin hau station.
