Guys, all theplaces in HK seem to have such tight/small bedrooms. I'm looking for a place whether the floorplan is more open even if it means losing one 'bedroom'. Any suggestions? are village houses better for open floorplans?

Very rare to find an open floor plan .. if you do find one... it might be an illegal modification made to the apartment / structure.
Not really illegal unless the wall you have taken down is integral to the construction. There are some more "open" plan apts out there, but rare - the preference seems to be to increase the # of br's over the actual usability of the space.
if your thinking of renting a village house, you can ask your agent if the owner will let you knock down wall to make a room larger or not, But you have to remember that you must re-install the wall when you plan to leave, this will usually be put in the contract. U also will have to pay for the wall to be knocked down. Some village house owners let you do this.
