Can you kindly offer an estimation of the cost of living in the New Territories area of Hong Kong please?
Also, what are the other cheap areas to live in? (given that you don't mind, or can bear, long commutes)

It depends where in NT u refer to as it (the cost) varies significantly. E.g shatin/fo tan could be a lot higher than YL/TSW.
Sorry, missed the second part of yr question.
In terms of other cheap areas to live in NT, I would recommend TSW(about 8-9k for a nice 3bedroom flat), or if you like rural / village environment, you may consider sheung shui / fanling areas (7-8k for a village house flat). If you don't mind paying a bit more, try tsuen wan or lai king areas (11-13k). Having said that you may need to add the cost on public transport if u work on hk side.
Cheap areas:
Tin Shiu Wai area developments and villages
Outlying islands, especially further away parts from the ferry
Very small and very dingy places in Mong Kong, Sham Shui Po and similar.
For 6K, I would prefer to do a flat share and live somewhere closer/better.
north district
rural house HK$4000 -HK$600 for 700 sq ft ( depends how remote, some are locate in towns, some are remote but has access vai buses and mini buses, you get cheaper, at HK$3000 but they maynot have much transportion or involve long journeys)
old traditional chinese building HK$4000 for 400-500 sq ft ( some are great, other are poor)
apartment modern HK$5500 plus for 500 sq ft ( some are even cheaper), really new ones as royal green will be more.
Overall cheaper than Kowloon and the Island (although some areas of the NT can be as expensive) - what is your budget / size requirement?
cheaper are could be:
Yuen Long (depends where though)
Tuen Mun (depends where though)
Tin Sui Wai
Lamma
Cheung Chau
Tai Po (depends where though)
Fanling
Sheung Shui (depends where though)
Tai Wai (depends where though)
TKO (depends where)
Clearwater Bay (depends where though)
Sha Tin (depends where though)
Ma On Shan (depends where though)
...
as you can see, plenty of places...
best prices if you can speak cantonese or bring a friend
it's possible to rent a full rural house (2100 sq ft) at HK$12,000 inc rooftop within parts ( slightly more remote) of north district!!
萬基物業
I am looking for apartments in Tin Shui Wai and Yuen Long atm. Rent has gone up insanely this year and it seems that you can get a 2bedroom flat for $7500. The village house is cheaper but still might cost you $3900 up for a room.
When are you coming? If you are interested to share a newish furnished apartment (less than 10 years old) in Yuen Long/Tin Shiu Wai area, please text me.
