There is nowhere "nearby" Admiralty for your budget. Once you realise you need to travel at least 50mins-1 hour, then pretty much the whole of HK (not quite, but you get my drift) becomes worth considering so it's not a sensible question!

For example, I too work in Admiralty and know someone who works in the British Council. LIke me, she lives in the Gold Coast where a SMALL appartment can be got for 7k (maybe 8k these days). Travel time to the wrong side of Admiralty - at least at hour if you include the walk to the British Council - less if you take the shuttle bus plus a taxi (but that would mean transport costs of HKD90 per day, minimum). Expect to pay at least HKD20-40 for travelling an hour anyway.

And when people are telling you small, they really mean SMALL. Bedrooms with no room to walk around the bed (pushed up against one wall), single living room with just enough room for a couch and TV, kitchen with no oven, no laundry, tiny bathroom with shower not bath. YOu get the picture.

Many places on the island at that budget would be a room (i.e. a "studio" - living room/bedroom combo) and the bathroom might not have a separate shower stall.

Friends of mine had a two bedroom flat in Sai Wan Ho for 7K a month. Old building with no lift but it was only on the 2nd floor. Flat itself was fine.

Come here and look around. An older type building will be much cheaper and would save you a long commute if you don't want the time and cost of doing that.
