    North Point/Quarry Bay/Taikoo Shing-Opinion

    Hi all,

Moving to HK in Jan 2012 and need an accomdation for a single male.

I am on a budget of approximately HK15k per month, my office is at Kerry Centre and I have been looking at North Point/Quarry Bay and Taikoo Shing area.
    A few questions

    1) Can I get modern a furnished place with 15k budget, dont want the place to bee too old, around 500ish square feet.
    2) Need to be near office and MTR, convenience for groceries shopping.
    3) Also preferably on higher floor as it'll be more quiet in the night.

Based on the Spec above, which of the above places are better, i have also heard Kornhill is a nice place to live in, and feedbacks most welcome so that i can advise my company appointed agent where to look for.

Here is an old thread, so prices may have changed but perhaps you can use it to narrow down some places that you might find suitable:

Being on HK island means however it's going to be quite expensive. Considered Tseung Kwan O as an option? Better value for money when it comes to housing, and you will have easy and fast access to your place of work, even getting to Central doesn't take too long.

Your budget seems a little low for the size, age, floor level, furnished and location....you need to think about compromising om some of these requirements.

Also suggest you wait until you get to HK before making any decisions on location...some places look and feel very different in reality from how you (or others) perceive them. I thought Kornhill sounded promising until I got to Taikoo and saw what a concrete hellhole it is. No way could I live there. But I have colleagues who live there (albeit in company paid for flats) and they like it, although they say they would not pay the rental prices there if it was funded out of their own salaries. They are all families though....it doesn't seem like a single guy kind of place and it certainly isn't cheap. Kornhill is definitely over your budget unless you lower a lot of your requirements.

Have a look at Westland Gardens just behind 1 Island East...had a friend living there a few years back...it's since had exterior redo...nice flat and location close to Taikoo Place

Tseung Kwan O aka Junk Bay is on the Kowloon side, there are several MTR stations: Tiu Keng Leng, Tseung Kwan O, Hang Hau, Po Lam and LOHAS Park.

Here is a map of the MTR, check along the purple line: MTR > Train Services > System Map

Here is a site for searching properties (rental or buying): 中原地圖 www.CentaMap.com

However I recommend you have a look yourself, pictures and such can be misleading and prices may not always be accurate, however it can help to narrow down places you might consider suitable.
You can find agents at nearly every larger housing estate, and they usually serve a wider area. If not they can very likely refer you to some colleagues.
