Best serviced apartments 11k-15k (platinum hollywood??)

    Hello!

The forums on this website are such a great resource; I've been reading them for weeks now and through the advice offered, have been able to make a short list of serviced apartments for my upcoming visit to Hong Kong.

I will be in Hong Kong for a little over a month this winter, from early December until mid January. I don't have plans -- I've never been to Hong Kong and am just coming to check out the scene and escape the NYC winter. I'm an American woman, 30 years old, and fairly well-traveled.

My budget for accommodation is between 11k and 15k at the most. I'm pretty flexible about location -- I just want to be somewhere near good public transportation, and hopefully with good food and shopping within walking distance. I'm not a big party girl, so it's not important that I'm near wild nightlife or anything like that. In fact, I'd rather avoid such areas.

I don't mind a very small space, as long as it has a 'good vibe', ie can be a relaxing refuge after the daily chaos of HK.

Some of the service apartments I've been considering are:
    The Lodge
    Chi 393
    Platinum Hollywood
    Regent Heights
    Royal View Hotel

I'm especially interested if anyone has anything to say about Platinum Hollywood. The location and rates seem very attractive, but I can't find many reviews from anyone who's actually stayed there.

Thank you so much for any assistance!
    -jana

Never stayed there but a quick look at their website seems to suggest good value for the compact rooms at 12k. I would implore that you email or phone them though as some of the websites of serviced apartments i was looking at had outdated rates and were substantially higher these days.

It's located near Soho and LKF which is the main party area in HK so in that aspect it doesnt meet your criteria.

Edit - Is your budget per month or for the duration of your stay? If the latter you may struggle.

Curious as to why you chose Hong Kong for your escape from New York?

    Because I'm here

Seriously though I guess it's a good gateway to other destinations in Asia.

Sometimes the best serviced apartment is one which actually has a vacancy at peak times, e.g. over Christmas and the New Year.

Check the size of the "compact" rooms carefully - when I was looking I saw one that was just the size of the bed + small bathroom area. Nothing more - open the door, bed to the right, very compact bathroom to the left. (and it wasn't a big bed) oh, I think it came with a kettle..... therefore could be advertised as having "cooking facilities". You get what you pay for, especially around Central
Platinum Hollywood is okay, but it is a walk up (no elevator) on Hollywood road which can get pretty noisy when the traffic backs up and the horns start, esp on the corner of Aberdeen if the intersection is being blocked. The smaller rooms have no view at all and only a small window - not really a "relaxing refuge after the daily chaos of HK", more somewhere to sleep and not spend any other time in. The larger rooms are better but more expensive, and overlook Hollywood Road (there's the noise again).

Wow, I just got home and so many helpful replies! As for why Hong Kong? I don't really have a good answer. I wanted a different sort of chaos, I guess

Ok, sounds like Platinum Hollywood is not good for my needs. I think I was charmed by the streetview on google maps.

Would something like The Lodge make more sense then? I think those rooms are at least bright as it's a high rise, and a bit bigger as well. Also, they have availability.

Regent Heights also tells me they have a studio available on the 6th floor... any advice about which of these might be a better pick?
