    How safe is Causeway Bay?

    Hi

Am considering renting one of those big,old apartments overlooking Victoria Park in Causeway Bay. The agent I am using said they are not very safe! I thought all of Hong Kong was safe. Any feedback?

Your agent is prob. overly cautious...go with your instinct

Sounds like BS to me. Check it out for yourself and if you think its safe..move in. I prefer older buildings as the flats tend to be more spacious, have higher ceilings and there are 3-4 flats per floor. Good Luck !

Ask the agent for a more precise explanation and try to figure out their motivation - is he pushing you to a more expensive place?
As for CWB being dangerous : as others have indicated, pure BS. I dont know anywhere in HK island that one could describe as dangerous.

I have been living in one of these for the last seven years. Huge(1600 sq ft) with large balcony(great for BBQ's and dogs)by HK standards and at a price that you can pay for a studio in Soho.

I have never seen of felt to be in any danger whatsoever at any time of the day or night.

To me it is a great place to live, close to the park, 24 hour supermarket, easy taxi availability, huge range of resteraunts within a few minutes walk, SOGO and wet market very close.

Parking is easy opposite Windsor Hse and in WTC for around $3000 a month.

The only downside can be traffic noise depending on which block you go for. The nearer the harbour the noisier it can be.

P.S. The estate agents around here are notoriously crap.

i had a friend living in that building - he said it was full of crack heads.. people urinating in the lifts.. muggers waiting by the security doors.. and burned out cars on the streets..

oh wait that was the UK

    you'll be fine

seriously a friend of mine lived there with her small kid and hubby for several years - never mentioned anything but the view...

Ask if it is break ins that is the issue or is the building old and unsafe (electrical)? A friend has told me that his friend has had a number of break ins in the day in her old building in To Kwa Wan as there is no security and lousy locking systems in a cheaper place I guess.

HK streets and CWB is surely safe as is most of HK. CWB seems busy all the time - day or all night.

As people have said CWB is very safe, as is most of Hong Kong.

I live there and yet to see any trouble.

However it seems your agent is referring to the building rather than the area?

Thanks everybody like JaredHK I love older buildings with high ceilings etc that's why I am keen on these apts. Unlike other folk, I actually like the hustle and bustle of big city life and don't mind the crowds of Causeway Bay. Guess I am going to switch agents and go ahead with my search!

The only thing that can be seen as unsafe in Causeway Bay might be the professional theives who steal wallets and handbags from unsuspecting victims, particularly on busy streets such as Henessey Road. Otherwise, reasonably safe.
