    Recommendations to Place of Stay

    Hi guys,

I am a fresh graduate who just moved to Hong Kong about a month and half ago; looking for a place to stay. I am currently staying at a serviced apartment in causeway bay on a montly basis, but I am looking for a more permanent home.

My budget is 7500 HKD -give or take lets say about a 1000.
Anywhere in hong kong doesn't really matter but I'd prefer places outside the innercity area where it's more quiet and where the living space is larger. I'd prefer furnished apartments but it does not need to be. My current room is 110sq ft and I am tired of staying in such small space (I pay 7000 hkd currently for rent).

I am currently thinking areas around Tung Chung, Yuen Long, Tsuen Wan, Fan Ling, Sha Tin, lam tin, etc, etc.

I really don't know much about properties or geography here so please help me out here.

Thanks for looking at this post

It's hard to give advice because your potential living areas are all over HK. Maybe tell us where you live and how far of a commute your willing to accept would help and narrow to a smaller part of HK.

But I would say SaiKung would suit you. More remote and quiet, cheaper and larger living space.

Parkisland is quite a good choice. It is an island which has frequent ferry services to Tsuen Wan and Central. There is some one bedroom studios suit your need.

Shatin, Tsuen Wan etc are not quiet and less crowded.

Tsuen Wan is cheaper than Shatin. Tsuen Wan Centre runs about 6500-8k for 400 sq ft.

Also, Tai Wai might have some cheap places. You need to go and look at each location. Stop in a rental agency and tell them your budget.

For 8k, there's loads of places.

I found a site that had nothing but flats in Kennedy Town for around that price. Have a look at squarefoot.com.hk loads of flats on there, we've been looking at Ma On Shan.

squarefoot though isnt uptodate and many agencies will post falsely low prices to attract clients. FYI

We should do a thread on decent agencies. I used squarefoot and a few other sites prepared for the fact that some ads would be misleading. It's not hard to separate the good from the bad. When I first responded to any add I outlined my requirements in full and warned them that if they didn't follow these to the letter I'd walk away (and I did from a few)

That left me with 3-4 great agents 2 of which I'd have no hesitation in recommending. If you are vague to them with what you want they will bombard you with everything on their books. These agents were also good at keeping the sites as up to date as possible.

gohome.com.hk is not bad. you can click english too.

well when you see the agent, if they ask for your phone number right away then usually from my experience they are bad.

i have walked away from 30 or more agents so seems like your luck is better than mine.

Don't get me wrong. I totally ignored the replies i got from a number of them It was plain they didn't read my requirements. Then dropped a few more along the way.
