richardintaipo, while i'm very glad your kids got school places and that you are happy with the school, don't think for one moment that they went out of their way for you because you asked nicely. top international schools are EXTREMELY over-subscribed and have long waiting lists. HKYIS let your kids in because they had space. it had nothing to do with "helping you out" just because you asked nicely.

maybe not, but my wife visited a dozen or so schools in HK for research several years ago and said that HKY gave the best service - by far. The worst? CIS

i'm not disputing that they may be nice.... but giving a spot to your kids has nothing to do with being nice.

By serviced house, do you mean fully furnished with plates, towels, bedding, full maid service, etc? I remember viewing one house that was fully furnished, just because the chinese owner left his furniture there. It was all high end stuff, but the style of it was a little questionable in my opinion and not really suitable for children. You would have to check with a real estate agent. I was always interested in an unfurnished house, since I was moving some of my stuff by container and the rest I purchased locally in HK.

Noted you are from Sweden, one of my friends here at BH is from Finland and he organizes a game of floor ball once a month here at the covered sports court. I think this game is really big in Sweden and Finland, although I had never heard of it in the US. A bunch of boys from the community here and other communities get together and they play. Maybe your sons would like this game? I know my friend would like more players!

Carang--I know that that they went out of their way to accommodate us, their classes were completely full and their new term started in 10 days. It was because I was nice, I am pretty charming and I try to be nice to others. I find that I can accomplish so much more this way in both business and personal life.

    Hi Tai Po Friends.

We have lived in the BH for two years and have been very happy with our house. Our kids go to school in Shatin and my husband works in Shatin and in China. That being said, living here has had it's frustrations and we are now in the process of buying a car at the end of this month. I cannot wait to come back from summer holidays and have a car to drive. Waiting on public transport has gotten a bit old after two years. That being said, if you are going to live here, having a car is a huge help!

Our kids are 12 and almost 11 and used to use the facilities a lot when we arrived but with friends and school work, there just isn't a lot of time anymore which is a shame.

Good luck and feel free to PM me with any questions about the BH and Tai Po in general.

Hi Richard, service house or apartment, I meant that we could live there for a month until we find our own, like a hotel but with kitchen and beddings etc. No I am like you, I have all my own things.
    What agent did you use?

Carang: I also know that they went out of there way, you know why. I sent an email telling them about my kids, actually also a long sad story and how desperate I was!! This sweet admission officer then sent an mail to the principal forwarding my mail and saying, I know its tight with space, but maybe we could help and accept the 3 boys. The thing was just that she by mistake sent the mail to me!! and not to the principal, I then on my side reacted immediately telling her that I thought she had by mistake sent it to me but I was so so happy and that I would accept! It was a bit funny because They couldnt really take it back then, so yes I think they where really helpful. And even if they did have space I choose to believe that they where nice and helpful, you can call me naive, but I feel happier thinking positive.

I know this is a little off topic but how much would a 3 bedroom place set you back at Beverly Hills? Just curious.

    Hi Jessika

I am not aware of any short term rentals here in BH, but there could be some that I am unaware of. I will send you a PM with the name of my agent and his phone number. Also give you my cell number in case you want to chat or meet up while you are looking. My wife and I became quite expert in this community, the units available, price range--as well as some of the nearby communities.

It depends on the many factors, view, location, type of unit and agent that you use. The smallest unit in BH is around 2700 sq feet, it has 3 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and a tiny little room on the 2nd floor that you can try to squeeze a domestic helper into as well as an open area on the 2nd floor that is used as a playroom or family room. I had seen units like this being offered anywhere from 35-45,000, when I was house hunting. If you use the large westernized relocation agents, you can expert to see much more expensive units and prices for units. I would not recommend using Henderson's on site sales people, their units are at the high end as well. Seeing similar units thru a local agent is the way to go in my opinion.
