Help! Landlord wants to raise rent after 1 year - is this legal?

    Once someone puts a squeeze on you (like he has done), you immediately know their true colours.

    Take that as a big hint and get out as soon as practical. Even if you work things out now, chances are he will pull a similar stunt 8 (or 18) months from now.

    My sentiments exactly. Unfortunately, he already knows that I wasn't planning on finishing the next year there, so my bargaining posture is limited.
