Renting liveaboard boat, yacht, junk boat

    Hi,

I am moving to Hong Kong in July, and I have always dreamed of living on lard a boat, today I have been looking at a number of properties in Hong Kong and wondered if anyone knew any agencies or private contacts for a years rental of a boat.

    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

I think I lost the name of the rental agent who covers the DB boats, but she's Norwegian and if you were to walk down to the marina in DB and ask I suspect (if she's still here) someone could point you in the right direction. She was the best for DB. Used to have fliers near the ferry pier in Central.

Other options: private ads (it's not a huge market) - you can find them on the notice boards next to the marina's in DB, Gold Coast (and I assume the other places like Aberdeen and Sai Kung). There are sometimes ads on here and also on Asia Expat.

Asia Yacht Services do it too, I think, and might know others if you ask. http://www.asiayachtservices.com/

(Edit - yes - my avatar is real - that's me on my boat, in Gold Coast)

    Start off here

    sure there are others.

I thought some of the boats on offer at squarefoot looked pretty expensive to rent compared to purchase price. Looks like yields are 10-15% compared to around 3% for land property but i'me sure someone here will be able to explain that.

However, 1800 sq foot for $24,000 is great value.

u can indeed make some pretty good deal. Friend bought an old liveaboard junk. Paid 1mil HKD. No or almost no renovation. Renting it for 25k a month.

Sure he has to pay the 4k/month to park it and pay 15k (or so) once a year to bring it for 'inspection'…not sure how u call it but overall not a bad buy.

Value of the boat has remained stable over the last 4 years.

Boats are depreciating assets unlike property. For property you get your yield in both rent and capital appreciation. For a boat you have to assume capital depreciation instead (so rent is higher to make up for it). Having said that, my boat has appreciated so you really can't tell!

    Hi,

Currently living in China, we (a couple of 40 years old) will relocate end of November in Hong Kong. As we plan to buy a sailing boat in a near future, we would like first to experience aboard living during few months.
We would like to rent a sailing boat (around 45 feet) for 4 or 5 months. If you have any potential idea, please let us know.
    Thanks in advance.

I guess it means you have access to the AMC's club facilities if you rent it.

Yes - that's what it means. That's pretty small for a houseboat.
