Anyway, back to the OP: the idea that the bulk of HK people give a rat's ass about someone's sexuality is quite implausible. Maybe if you were living in some backwater village and had already done something to piss off the locals?
Foreigners are generally regarded as eccentric anyway, and there are plenty of obviously gay Chinese guys around. (Though sometimes it's pretty hard to tell given the way straight guys dress.)
