Short-term pet friendly hotel or serviced apartment

I just received a job offer from Hong Kong PolyU in Hung Hom for 30k. I am very excited, but it came a little sooner than I had expected. I will be moving with my 11 year-old chihuahua and to get started I would like to find something relatively local or at least on the Hung Hom rail line to stay at until I can find a permanent apartment. I noticed that some serviced apartments are over 40k per month, so I would prefer not to spend 1 -1.5 months salary on my first month accommodation. My girlfriend has applications out at several universities and she is a 2014 NET candidate. Because of this, we want to find out where she gets placed before settling on a permanent apartment. Any suggestions?

Also, I read that Happy Valley is pretty pet friendly when considering long-term. It seems that it is also not a bad commute to my work. Any other areas to look at long term too?

Depending on where you are coming from the dog will need quarantine. Which may help your accomdation situation because as far as i know no serviced apartments are pet friendly.

Also best to stop looking at the 40k apartments as the nay says will be all over you about how 30k is not enough. Its definately possible. So which ever place you choose enjoy Hong Kong!

I am coming from the US, so microchip, vaccinations, and proper application paperwork should eliminate the quarantine. I got a 33k quote from Ovolo 111, which was too high, but I have been looking at vacation rentals from individuals and it mighty be my best option right now. I guess I just need to have a backup plan to make sure I have somewhere to sleep for my first week or two.

For my lifestyle 30k salary per month will be plenty, so I am not worried baout that. I will eventually be sharing housing with my girlfriend, so we get to split the rent in the long run.

There is no quarantine from US, provided all the vaccinations are in order.

You should discuss this plan with your vet now. The dog has to be considered fit to travel, and this is not automatic with older dogs who may not cope with the stress of the trip well.

Is it possible for your girlfriend to look after the dog for a couple of weeks while you sort out a rental, and then the dog flies out when everything is sorted? This would mean no hassle finding temporary accommodation, and the dog can move straight into its new home.
