Realistic Stanley to Causeway Bay commute time?

    Hi All,

I'm very close to saying yes to an apartment in Stanley. I really like the building, location, atmosphere, price... but people keep scaring me off with the commute.

I lived in NYC for 10 years and commuted approx 45 min each way and then in Melbourne where I was 45+ each way. I don't mind it. I'm used to it. But can someone tell me (that does it often), what's the realistic commute time?

I'd say aiming to get to work for 9 (but could start going earlier) and leaving CB at 7 or later?

I appreciate any ideas as I'm trying to decide between Stanley and Sheung Wan in the next couple days. I know, I know Sheung Wan is more convenient

    Thanks!

Normal day : Minibus 40 will get you to CWB in about 20 mins
Not too unusual days : Same minibus, moderate traffic, 40 mins
A bad day with very bad traffic (Tunnel accident or weather related etc) : 1 hour

Your next question should be to ask if anyone knows the best place to pick up the minibus 40 to avoid queues or to ensure that the bus is not full when it sails past your stop. Minibuses are fabulous ... except if you live at the point just where they always fill up!

It took me an hour to drive from Stanley Village to Sai Kung town during peak hour ( leaving Stanley Plaza at 5:30pm ) yesterday. so I would imagine a mini bus driver should be able to get into Causeway bay in the times mentioned by others. So 20 - 40 minutes should be pretty usual.

More than worth it in my opinion, Stanley is a great location, well serviced by quality shops and eateries between the plaza and Stanley Market road.

Well done, you'll really enjoy living there during your non working hours.

does it save time going via Tai Tam country park rather than going through the heavily commuted Repulse bay and Island Road route....?

GET TO WORK EARLIER. it's jam packed from 8AM onwards.

Leave home at 7.30 and you will be in your office at 8/8.10

During the morning rush hour, Stanley to CausewayBay by minibus no. 40 is a better commute than Stanley to Admiralty/Central by buses. The no. 40, being a MINIbus, is more maneuverable than regular buses, and it gets you to CausewayBay via Leighton Road.

After it exits the Aberdeen Tunnel, the no. 40 minibus goes down the slipway into Wanchai and then towards CausewayBay, thus avoiding the congestion on the bridge (leading to the cross harbour tunnel and Central) as well as that on Queen's Road East.

As Skyhook said, 20 - 40 minutes should be pretty usual. And you'll really enjoy living here because the ambience in Stanley is simply GREAT! (Even on rainly weekdays/weekends )
