True, I do like to live in an area which is local in character. Otherwise why live overseas at all?

sekwai, I made my (usual) criticisms about this bit of reclamation earlier.

Bookblogger, wot I sez is let 'em live in Olympic or Disco Bay if they wants to ... they seem to be sort of self-designating as areas for folks who are in town for earning money and/ or to add to their c.v's rather than because they actually want to live in the Hong Kong some of us old hands enjoy

Maybe Sek lived in a highrise Housing Comission
flat, (or the eqv of ) back in the west somewhere? Maybe that explains the over developed highrise fetish.

I reckon a council flat back in the west would actually be, considerably larger and be better fitted out in regard to built in closet space, oven, full sized kitchen and bathroom, for $70Aus/usd per week lol Hope Sek wont feel too cramped for space in his HKG, highrise shoe box tm.

Yes, that's more accurate, I do mean old.

In my view, new districts like Tung Chung and Olympic have all the downsides of HK urban life (crowdedness, noise, bad layouts, air pollution) but none of the upsides found in older districts (markets, street life, walkable distances, temples, buildings with character).

As HK rents rise at the rate they currently are, in time, Folks like Bookie are going to move further and further out . It is definitely making our low income expats in saikung move out,as they can no longer afford the rents, post HK academy opening its doors, which increased rents by 50 ~ 100% taking the lower demographic out.

If you define awful as modern, clean, convenient, child-friendly, full of facilities, restaurants and shops then yes - Olympic is truly awful 😝
