Ok fine - Wan Chai can go back on the list.
Hmm, unfortunately Cantonese is not an option for me atm....maybe give me a few months and then I'll be able to say some phrases!

I don't want a long commute for sure, but then I think 'long' in HK is probably normal for the rest of the world!
The more I think about it , the more I NEED this oven. So I'm gonna have to go wherever I can get my hands on one, or enough kitchen space so I can get one.

I've also heard good things about Discovery Bay. I know it will mean taking the ferry most days but apparently there is a good 'community feel' to the area. This recommendation came from a friend who's a HK local though - so not sure whether its best for my very first time in HK. Any thoughts anyone?

Hi Viktri - good to know things can be negotiated down! I wont have to deal with the agents personally, because my firm is helping me out with a relocation consultant to deal with the agents - but all these things are good to know as I don't want to be taken for a ride by them either!

DB is very nice but a few things to note:

    1) It will mean taking the ferry all days, not most, unless you work part-time?

    2) It's a lot of families, so not sure how much fun it would be for a single 25 year old. You might find yourself socializing elsewhere (i.e. HK Island or TST) most of the time as a result

    3) I'm not sure how easy it will be to find a flat share there.

But I would definitely recommend taking a look if someone you know has suggested it to you, it might suit you. There is a market on Sundays and I noticed a lot of residents there who seem to have home-based baking businesses selling cakes and cookies.

Nothing stopping you emailing her now. Or coming out for a quick visit before you arrive - the cost of a return flight is paltry in comparison to ongoing rent costs in HK.

Hi Katherine you can stay in Olympic area which has Olympic MTR station which is only 10 mins from Hong kong and central station because both stations are connected. There is a website called easyroomate hong kong this has many flat shares available. If you are up for meeting new people when you get here just give me a message. I am a 26 year old female who moved here from the UK last year and love to meet me people.
