Pok Fu Lam School / Kwun Tong Work - Where To Live

My first post after what felt like reading through the entire forum.

The family will move to Hongkong in October. We will stay at a serviced apartment while looking for a place to move in.
Wife, two kids (1 and 5 years) and me.
We have spent a week looking at apartments in our price range. Sotheby's was our agent.
Office will be what feels like the end of the world in Kwun Tong.
The school will be in Pokfulam.
Is it really so much better in the southern part of the island to be worth the daily commute for me?

The agent was quite adamant that we shouldn't even look at other areas.

    What do you think?

You mean the property agent told you that you shouldn't look at living outside Kwun Tong ? This is absurd and you need to find another agent !

If the school is in Pokfulam, get an apartment nearby. Commute from Pokfulam to Kwun Tong 45 - 60 minutes.

the agent works for you not the other way round. you tell them where you want to look and thats it.
there are plenty of other agents, centaline, midland, ricacorp.

your commute is not that bad but stick to mtr routes for now - look at belchers in pokfulam. great clubhouse and mtr is right downstairs.

    call the agents

    Sorry, I was not clear!

the agent was talking about the south of the island.

repulse bay, tai tam, stanley (might be too expensive)

Someone had commission $$$ in their eyes.

    What is your budget?

Agent is wrong. Pokfulam or areas in Western District on the MTR (Kennedy Town/HKU stations) will make your commute much easier and are very close to where your kid will be in school. Why on Earth would anyone with a school in Pokfulam and a job in Kwun Tong live in Stanley?!

The agent we got stuck with as part of corporate relocation package also showed us southside even though we repeatedly said we had no interest. They think all expats want to live down there.

With 60k you can rent a 1200sf unit (gross) in The Belcher's.

(I misread your initial post obviously).

One week is too tight to learn about the place and find an apartment, in my view.

Agents are local and territorial, if you look outside his/her area that means the commission will be going to another agent. FInd another agent in the area that interests you.
