Hollywood Road vs Conduit

    Hollywood Road vs Conduit

I've narrowed my search for a permanent place to two options, one on Hollywood and the other on Conduit. Both are close to the escalator.

The Conduit place is bigger and has a great view. Does being on Hollywood Road give an advantage for going out in LKF and Soho, or are cabs so easy that Conduit is just as good?

Anything else I should know about comparing the two streets?

Cabs are generally easy so that shouldn't be an issue. Depending on where you are on Conduit then the absence of shops can be an issue. Will you use the escalator or taxis to get to work? Conduit only has minibuses, not big buses, so that may be a factor (I'm not sure how easy it is to get taxis in the ursh hour on Conduit, but my guess is that it isn't easy).

If you're single and tend to go out in the evenings then I'd have thought size wasn't that big an issue? These days I find the view depressing rather than inspiring on account of the pollution.

    Hope that helps.

There's a ParknShop and a Welcome right by the elevator on Robinson Rd which is right below Conduit and I've never had much problem getting out of there when I was living in that area.

I like having more space both inside and out and I don't like busy street like Hollywood but if you like to be in the thick of it then you may enjoy Hollywood Rd more.

True. If you do your shopping around 10am you could get the escalator both ways! There's a 7-11 with an HSBC ATM right by the escalator on Robinson as well.

Lived there for awhile and not being able to get transport w/in a reasonable time frame in the morning was a reason for moving. Even when I called for a taxi in advance they still managed to take another fare, not me. The part of Conduit that I lived on also meant that in the morning the minibus was full by the time it reached the stop I was at.

I arrive at work at 8 in Causeway Bay, so if I was on Conduit I go down to Robinson and take the bus in front of the Wellcome. The hollywood road place has a bus stop and grocery store that are much closer.

I've convinced myself on either place about 20 times already, urgh. I'm going to make a final decision tomorrow no matter what! If you think of something else or just want to voice your opinion, please post and let me know! I'm very new here and value any information.

How are you going to get home from work? No (big) buses go up Robinson (unless you get the 23A from CWB all the way round Central, SoHO, Caine & Seymour, which takes forever, isn't very frequent, and stops at 7:30pm) so you'd be getting a bus to Caine (plain 23 and getting the escaltor up?

Tons of buses/minibuses do Cain Rd and then on the elevator, stop at ParknShop for daily shopping, it's perfect... Otherwise minibus 56 isn't a bad choice to go to Robinson Rd

Of course, I prefer to cycle but that's not the norm

I have 2 co-workers who live near the apartment on Conduit, so cab-sharing is also an option. Moreso on the way home than into work.

One of my co-workers told me to stay away from Sheung Wan - is that a bad area? The hollywood road place is also kinda close to the Sheung Wan MTR.

You should easily be able to walk to and from bars and restaurants etc in Soho and LKF if you live on Hollywood Road near the escalator (although I think it becomes Wyndham by the time you get to the escalator). I'm sure you could take a cab to and from Conduit fairly cheaply but the convenience of walking would be a big plus if you go to Soho/LKF every weekend.

Having said that, I used to live near Caine Road and now I live in a fairly local area near Sheung Wan. I used to be able to walk down to Soho, which was cool (although embarrassingly I used to take the taxi back cos I couldn't be bothered walking up sans escalator post midnight), but now I am saving about 10k in rent and it only takes me about a 5minute 16 dollar cab ride to get to Soho!
