Living in Metro Harbour View (Tai Kok Tsui/Olympic)

I will be renting an apartment in Metro Harbour View starting from next month. Can anyone who lives here / has lived here tell me the pros and cons of living in MHV? What do you like and hate most about living in MHV? How does it compare to others such as HarbourGreen, Park Avenue, etc.?

How are the clubhouse facilities? Is a resident automatically a clubhouse member or do I need to pay to subscribe? I saw on the brochure that certain clubhouse facilities are not open to visitors at all (like literally the visitor price is blank?)

Do I need to walk to Mong Kok/Sham Shui Po every time I wanna eat out?

I feel like the worst thing about MHV is public transport.. The nearest MTR is Nam Cheong (7-min outdoor walk) and bus service seems to be really limited... Is there not a minibus to Hung Hom Bus Station (which would be a great alternative to MTR for cross harbour travel)?

Just overall, how do you feel about living here?

    Many thx

Just moved out of MVH and enjoyed my time there.

Transport wise it is great! Like you said, 7 minute walk to Nam Cheong or a 10 minute walk to Prince Edward. There is a minibus outside that goes to Mong Kok but it is usually quite busy. I had no problems commuting at all. A 7 minute walk is nothing.

Clubhouse is okay. You need to pay a small fee to use their services (single charge) and need to be a resident. You can have up to two visitors but they need to sign in with you there. Prices are a bit more for visitors.

The gym is outdated and not for the weight fanatics but does the job. Monthly cost is 160 and single entry is around 12 if I can remember correctly. The clubhouse is quite nice but I rarely used the facilities apart from the gym. The pool was usually busy and full of kids so stayed clear from that. The clubhouse actually has a wide range of facilities available but you do need to pay for each of them.

There is a Welcome and a Mannings literally downstairs and the shopping mall caters to your needs when it comes to buying bits and bobs. Never had a problem buying stuff. There are many restaurants nearby, just explore the area and you will see a vast array of options.

Oh, they just opened a KFC in the shopping mall below.

    Good to hear that.

But being someone who has been living right above an MTR station + 2 bus termini + countless bus stops for a year, 7-min outdoor walk seems a bit harsh plus I saw only one minibus route (to Mongkok), which disappointed a guy like me who lives on minibus! Anyways, I still went for MHV because I quite liked its podium garden, the estates and lobbies are well-maintained IMO. It might be the only option around with such qualities that I can currently afford..

By the way, what time does the shopping mall beneath close? Is the gym usually crowded?

Yeah there is only one minibus just outside but if you explore there are many others! Not a fan of minibuses myself.

The lobbies and the staff are sublime. Lovely folk and I always used to give my stickers from the supermarket to them. The shopping mall closes at 11. Avoid going at the weekend cause it gets packed!

Gym was never crowded when I went, and I went daily. During the afternoon, nobody really. At night there will be a few. The treadmills are the busiest machines but you can book a 30 minute slot at the reception for a specific time. The weight machines are really outdated but they added a smith rack few months ago. Like I said before, if you are into hard weight training, it is not a gym for you. But to keep yourself ticking over it does the job.

The flats itself aren't too bad! Not the biggest that for sure but the kitchens are modern and the views aren't too bad!

Here’s what the queue for the minibus looked like this morning at 08:20. Non-peak hours generally only wait 5-10 minutes, but it's not much longer to walk if the weather's OK. If you want to go to Hung Hom, you can take west rail from Nam Cheong, it's very quick. There's also minibuses towards Kowloon City and TST, and buses to Lai Chi Kok nearby. Ultimately though going to the east side of HK Island from West Kowloon is a bit slow and will mostly need a change. 905 / 914 from island stop nearby. Really depends where you're travelling to and how often.

There's loads of food options nearby and within a short walk, SSP and MK being nearby is just a bonus. Main disadvantage vs. Harbour Green is not having the covered walkway to Olympic MTR, but it's not far to get there. Lok Kwan street park just outside MHV is small but pleasant.

Hey guys, I am thinking of moving to MHV, is anyone living there right now? I know apartments are too big, but I am looking for a 2br place to live on my own, no wife or kids. Is it a nice place for a 28yo guy with a budget around 16K? Other options you can think of? I need a 2br place to host my parents when come to visit me.
Btw, I will be working as pilot so need to travel to the airport, that's why I am looking some place near an MTR to connect with AE.
As working long haul, I will be going to airport only 4-5 times a month, so no problem if it's not a direct connection.
    Thanks!

*Apartments aren't too big. My mistake

PS: I read people jumped out of the windows. I am not superstitious but I definitely don't want to live in a place where people jump out from height XD

I live in Harbour Green, I think the food options in and around Tai Kok Tsui are fantastic, no need to walk to MK.

Lots of mini buses outside Metropolitan Estates only a few minutes walk from MHV.

I live in Shining Heights just next door (a bit closer to Prince Edward and a bit further from Nam Cheong/Olympic) but basically an 8-15 minute walk from 4 MTR lines (Red, green, purple, orange) is fantastic. In any case, once you get to know the area there are so many big buses and green minibuses around I don't even take the MTR most days anyway. But my kids take MTR to the Australian school very convenient on the days when Prince Edward is not being teargassed or vandalised.

Take the A21 to airport only $33 and 30 minutes from MHV. It's one of the last stops before it jumps onto the highway and then non stop to airport.

I'm leaving HK in a few weeks and going to rent my place out, but its a 3 bedroom/2bath place with maids room (3 bathrooms) looking around $30k so probably a bit big if your just a single guy.

Thank you madal1 and bdw! I really appreciate your comments and help me make up my mind. There are 2 places I am considering right now, DB and Olympic/Tai Kok Tsui. I know they are quite different, but the reason I am considering DB is some of my colleagues and friends will be living there so it's easier to gather, and because of the beach view. Otherwise, I like Olympic or Tai Kok Tsui cause it's close to anywhere else without being in such enclosed apartments and buildings like in mid levels or central. And cheaper also haha.

Bdw, thank you very much for your offer. Unfortunately, 30K is really far from the budget I can afford. I would very much like a big place like that but the salary won't allow so (believe it or not, our payments are not even close to being what used to be in the past haha). And the info about A21 bus was awesome!

Any comments or other people living in the area/building would be much appreciated also! Thanks again
