Imperial Hotel is right next to ChungKing Mansions.
I'm not sure how you got on with the cancelling, but I can recommend:
https://www.booking.com/hotel/hk/e.html
It's a newly opened boutique hotel which is very reasonably priced, it's not in HK Island but in the heart of Kowloon. Close to the MTR and many good food options around.
Booking.com did not allow us to cancel. We stayed in Chung King for 2 nights and then moved to 'The Kimberley Hotel' a 5 minutes walk away. The differences were astounding. What was shocking is that we paid £15 less per night for the 4 star we moved to. It was so nice to be in a normal environment... without the hookers, pimps and drug dealers.
