    Place to live near beach

    Hi everyone

I have a task from my boss and it's starting to drive me crazy. I need to locate an apartment or a house to fulfill following requirements:

    - Most importantly, a quiet place close to the good beach. Like, REALLY close, under 500 meters. Easy taxi communication with HK island.
    - area should be populated by expats mostly
    - relatively new building (under 10 years)

I've only been to HK two times by myself, so i'm really not familiar with HK numerous districts. Please help me to separate those which are most likely to have something like my boss needs.

    Thanks in advance

    Shota

There is no area "populated by expats mostly". The highest expat percentage by far is in Discovery Bay, and that reaches maybe 35-40%. Nowhere else goes above 20-25%. You can't get taxis to HK Island from DB.

So you need to ask your boss to redefine the task. (Or possibly to stay at home since he doesn't seem too open to the idea of living in a foreign country.)

not only that, but you have provided no other information...

    is he bringing his family?
    will he be driving?
    what is his budget?
    how many bedrooms?
by taxi, everywhere (except outlying islands, DB) is accessible to hk island....

has he ever been to hk???? does he know what the water is like here?
there are VERY few options that close to any beach....

    Thanks for replies

    - he will not drive
    - budget is up to USD 2.000.000 (buy, not rent)

I don't want to look like i need an estate agent for free, just some directions which HK areas are most suitable would be appreciated

discovery bay would be the best bet, although it isn't a taxi ride from central, rather a ferry ride (about 25 minutes). the ferry is comfortable and there is NEVER any traffic to worry about!

Plus, DB has the highest concentration of short-term flat rentals.

Your boss will have plenty of choice. The only concern with the ferry is, how much partying will your boss do? After 1230, the ferries run about once an hour at best!

I'm not sure you'll find anything on the beach for $2million US unless it's a pokey hole or he's willing to live in Discovery Bay which does have the issues of limited access. HK prices are crazy.

If he won't drive how will he get around? Does he plan to have a driver or take cabs because I'm assuming he won't spend his life at home? It's not like there's a place in Central on the beach which would negate his need to drive.

He sounds like he doesn't have a clue about HK and life over here. Poor you to break it to him!

We really need more info about who he is coming with.

I do feel for you. It's not easy to find a property for someone who has never been to Hong Kong and has no idea what it is like. It will be a culture shock for your boss; there are millions of Chinese and Asian people here and (western I presume he/she means) expats are a tiny minority.

You can look at this website. It gives information on residential districts and an idea of prices, which are subject to change in the current economic climate.

Good luck. BTW, does this mean you will be 'free' of him/her?

We live 300 metres from the beach and a park, Shota can easily get a 2400ft penthouse beach/sea/mountain/island view apartment, with multiple level balconies and roof top terrace, or a house right on the edge of the water 3 minutes walk from our complex, for between $8 - $16 million HKD, and nothing smaller than 2000Ft2, inc 2 car spaces. All within 40 minutes taxi ride to the central via the Western Harbour Tunnel, no sweat.

Shota's boss is going to have to be a little more flexible, and modify his criteria a tad. By living further from the city, with unrestricted vehicle access. Seaside locations like Sai Kung Beach, Hebe Haven ( Shelter Cove is awesome ), Marina Cove and Clearwater Bay Beach, are all lifestyle choice area's worth considering, and within your bosses price range, but property ages there are older, which shouldn't matter if the property he's looking at have been renovated recently. .... The luxury villa's in the distance seen from the photo I provided, are 35 years old, and very nice, with lovely grounds, views and predominantly owner occupied.

Why are people suggesting DB when he clearly wants taxi access? Sai Kung won't suit his lifestyle, either. And LOL at Siu Lam/Gold Coast.

Repulse Bay, Hong Kong Parkview for example, might be something you could look into. It's near a beach, has taxi rides to Central, within your budget and there are quite a few exapts there.
