I would wait until you get out of quarantine and go and visit these places in person. For example, once the links with the Mainland reopen, Tung Chung is absolutely inundated with mainland visitors who come on the bus over the bridge. I would hate to live there. So you may want to think more widely.

I live in Gold Coast, which may be a bit far for you, but has a resident bus to Olympic (one stop from Kowloon) in the morning (and a bus which stops at the toll plaza the rest of the day) and is a great, multicultural place with beaches and hiking and a lot fewer people in total than many other places. Just get out of quarantine, get on an MTR or bus and walk around these neighbourhoods. But do beware about where the mainlanders will come when they are alllowed back in soon.
Tung Chung was full of mainlanders in Citygate mall not the rest of Tung Chung, you have been reading too much about it in the newspapers. There are pathways around the mall that most people ignore because it means climbing 30 steps and it's a hardship in HK. Go to any mall in HK back then and it was the same. Gold Coast is boring and next to one of the worst area of HK - Tuen Mun, I once saw a graffiti in Tuen Mun saying "Worse than Gotham", which is true in a way.

If the OP wants to socialise while being single or in couple I would suggest Lantau (except DB because it's just a copy of the Truman Show). Tung Chung is growing fast and honestly if you enjoy hiking there is no competition.

Having owned a penthouse and a village house pretty close to the Gold Coast, I'd have to agree that it is a pretty boring place, I mean how shit is the piazza/mall? I found it pretty soulless and full of tight ass retiree expats which for some reason were always originally from Wales lol.

Yeah nah, was pretty happy to sell up and move back to Sai Kung which is noticeably a lot more vibrant in the town centre any given weekend.

If I was single, there is no farking way I'd live out in the Hong Kong Ozarks aka Tung Chung, Gold Coast or Stepford County aka Discovery Bay.

Find a cool walk up or lift accessible bachelor pad in and around Lyndhurst Terrace, Central HK Island and thoroughly enjoy your sex life. Living out in the New Territories while not already being happily partnered, would seriously suck and greatly reduce your opportunity.

Once you've had your fun and eventually partnered, then live out in the Ozarks, not before.

But this heavily depends what 'your' priorities are. lol

They do call Caribbean Coast the little Wanchai now. It changed a lot since! I used to find it boring before but it is different now. Once they complete that seaside walk it will be much better. I used to live in Wanchai while single and I had a blast, been there recently and it's a ghost town. LKF, meh. Maybe I'm getting too old and grumpy!

Hence why the FAB & OMO box was a thing for bored housewives while pilot hubby's were overseas.

The OMO box = old man out.
The FAB box = Farkin arsehole is back!

My point was Austin Stations is 10 min walk to ICC. So a 40 min commute with 10 mins the other end that gives ~20 mins on the Tsuen Ma line. So Kam Sheung Road one way Hin Keng the other.

Both locations would offer lower rental costs and no faffing on multiple changes on the MTR but a 10 min walk at the start / end.

Certainly not the new town feel of Tung Chung but an option

The plaza has pretty much been completely redeveloped since you were here (that is, in the last 2 years). It now has a lot more restaurants and the supermarket has doubled in size (and moved upstairs). We have beaches, mountains, hiking - that appeals to me more than mores shops on every level. Similarly in the time we have lived here, Tuen Mun has also changed a huge amount, with brand new shiny mall over the MTR (catering mainly to mainlanders but still very useful). I actually think Tuen Mun is a nice town - certainly once you get to know it. Not a place to move to on the first trip though.
