    Window type AC vs Split

Hi everyone, TGIF. Just wanted to check if anyone has experience renting a place with window type AC? Seems this is very common in Hong Kong. I'm not sure if this type of AC consumes more electricity? Does it take longer to chill a medium sized room? Does it have more issues compared to split AC? Appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

All three places I rented in HK had window-type units but were all built into the wall. I had no issues, cooled the room fast but are noisier than split aircons. Most rooms in HK are...small, medium-sized rooms in HK probably not more than 200 square feet, the aircons can handle it. If there are issues with the units, are cheap to replace. My only issues were with condensate drains that would routinely get blocked and drip on the neighbor below...

I think that window type aircon are more efficient.
You could simply compare the BTU/hr value to power consumption of the aircon to check which one is more efficient.
Window aircons in my point of view are easier to keep clean and maintain than split aircons.
But usually they are noisier and you often have the problem of water dripping on the outside part, which creates a annoying sound.

Window Type = easy to maintain & clean
Split Type = expensive than WT, high maintenance & Cleaning disturbance. Indoor & outdoor needs to be serviced once or twice a year for optimal performance.

Get an inverter type either you end up with WT or ST

Split are better because quieter (the noisy part is outside), more efficient (mounted higher and can cool larger rooms), and you dont need to cut a big arse hole in the wall.

Window are better for smaller rooms (mounted lower and gives better circulation in smaller rooms) and maintenance costs.

no, you check the COP. and you will find that split type units are far more efficient that window units, about 20% lower energy consumption for the same output. also inverter type split type unit is about 40% more efficient than standard split type.

both cool the air in the room, so for the same capacity there cannot be any difference in the "speed" of cooling, although split type units tend to have larger fans, giving better circulation.

I lived in a place with the window type AC. Most of the time it was ok, but when it rained it was like a machine gun firing. I think most window types have some sort of cover above so theres not so much noise, but it meant every subsequent flat had to have split type AC.

I recall to clean window type aircon the AC needs to be removed entirely from the wall, quite a few years ago when I lived in an apartment with window AC. And they are noisier than split type.
