    Long stay at a hotel

Hi. Can anyone share their experiences of long stay in a hotel? I'm looking for info such as:

    • Rent
    • Location
    • Car parking facilities
    • What's provided
    • Long term contract or can go month by month
    • Anything else that is worth considering

I'm looking for one in the N.T.

    Thanks.

Probably not the part of NT you were interested in but I nearly moved to the one at Ma on Shan as a stop gap to getting my first rental. Short term leases were possible at the time so I’m sure now https://www.horizonhotels.com.hk/en/...xoCCUgQAvD_BwE

I have lived in a hotel for a brief period of time and the biggest issue I had was a new employer and bank considering it "not a valid address" for payment/HR and account opening purposes, respectively.

Sometimes these people will not even take a serviced accommodation as a valid address...

This is definitely something to be mindful of. Many HK employers and banks are strict on providing a valid address, so if you're planning on coming to HK to work, it'll pay to research what qualifies as a permanent residence.

I lived in a small hotel room in Kowloon for a long period. My experience may not be valid to you OP if you're looking for car parking.

Initially I booked for a few days when I first arrived in Hong Kong and then extended it. I paid a week at a time and later two weeks at a time. At the beginning I was on edge because I might have to move rooms to suit other guests who may have booked a certain kind of room in advance. The longer I stayed they adjusted for me and when COVID started I was on easy street. They never increased the price in all the time I was there, apart from a 10% increase on Saturdays and public holidays.

I never had any issues with opening a bank account. My employer just gave me a letter and I opened an account with that and gave my address as the hotel/guesthouse. This was after only one or two days in HK.

The main issue was things like food and laundry and basically living out of a suitcase. Depends on the size of the room what you can do, but of course you can't buy furniture and things, so you'll have to adjust to what's there.

I've had long term stays in hotels during covid and beyond until recently when I signed up a lease. Although never in the NT but I would check Dorsett if they would have a monthly plan for their TW property (I've stayed with Rosedale CWB, Dorsett WC, and Cosmo WC priced between 7.5k - 13k for single occupancy).

All the properties I stayed at were pretty comfy for a single person to just rest after a days work. The cleaning service is still once a week, you just get water (some hotels have a water fountain on each floor to refill), if there is a typhoon they'd offer you meals else you can do food deliveries at the reception. Some hotels also let you use their gym.

I liked Dorsett WC given I had the full view of the race course from my room and they really had a well maintained gym. I was month to month for about 3 months (they don't do contracts),

I lived in a couple of different hotels during covid, there were lots of good deals for around 10K during 2021, probably a bit more now. If you're a single person new to HK then it's a great option.

    The only downsides are:
    - can't cook food, costs more than if you had a kitchen
    - laundry is a pain if there isn't a laundromat nearby
    - Be aware of the dates your stay ends, I made the mistake of ending just before Christmas, then when I tried to book the price was 2x for the week of xmas-new years.

It was $180 per night, except on Saturday and public holidays it was $200. Worked out around $5500. Prices seem to have increased a lot since though in most places. There are very few or even no budget options in NT compared to Kowloon.

Thanks. Those were the times. Many cities had unbelievable prices. Stayed in Istanbul Sultanahmet for a month and it was 15-20 Euro a day what is now back to 80-100
