? Unless this is a trick question, a flat is an apartment and flat share means you share an apartment with somebody else.

flat is british/english for for apartment

    flat share - apartment share

does it make sense now- was it just a problem with use of word flat?

we brits use room-mate too, but it means you literally share a room, not a flat.

I've never come across anyone who didn't know that a flat was before!

You've obviously never come across Americans who have never left America before then!

Well I do try and avoid going to the USA and meeting the ones overseas, by definition, means they have left....! Obviously working for a US company tends to make this harder.

yes, i discovered that when i got here and was looking for a room-mate...quickly changed my vocabulary....

there are so many small differences between the two, some of them more commonly known in other english speaking countries and some not so well known...

Not a trick at all. I'm from US, and we don't call them flats. Learned something new today. Thanks all
