Flat condition worse prior to handover

I'd like to know normal procedure with property handover. I viewed the apartment multiple times and inspected everything before making an offer.

Now that the handover date is in a few days, I went to inspect it and noticed some of the things (e.g. Windows, Walls, etc) were new damages. I documented these and got statements from the landlord that these damages happened the last 2-3 week.

I am being told 2nd hand property damages won't be fixed by old landlord. Is this the normal practice as has these damages been identified been present before I made an offer, I'd not have even considered this property.

I've raised it to my lawyers already and pending respnse. I'd like to know what's normal practice here.

if you can itemized the damages, why not just ask the landlord to repair it.. what you hear might not necessary be the exact situation if the damage is acknowledged by the previous owner.
