Unhappy Is 7500 too low for a basic furnished appt?

I would be moving to HK sometime in June. Am wondering if 7500 is too low a budget to get an aptt with basic furnishing. I need a ref, washing machine & microwave. Anything else would be a big plus.

Plus I need to be as close to Central or MRT as possible.

Fridges are very common, washing machines more often than not, microwaves less common (but only a few hundred dollars to buy); beyond that, apart from a gas hob and aircons (normally) you normally need to furnish places yourself. If a 3-400 sq.ft place like that will do then should be no problem a little distance away from Central (but close to an MTR - say in North Point or somewhere like that).

Depends on the landlord and the building. Alot of places have basic furniture such as fridges and washing machines already, and the landlord might be willing to provide them as long as you are willing to sign a longer lease.

If the flat is in an older Chinese style walk up, then the rent will be cheaper as well.

It depend to the property location.

If close to Central, that it is low.

Easy to find apartments in that price range even on HK Island, and as PDLM says, just go out and buy a microwave.

    Thank you

Thank you all for your comments. I am landing in HK on June 16. I will have about 1 week to look for an apartment before my office provided accommodation runs out. Am keeping my fingers crossed.

    Hi Nike

You should definintely be able to find an apartment for that price on HK side, but it would prob be a studio. If you need a microwave or any other furniture for that matter. I'm leaving HK middle of July so have practically new stuff I'm getting rid of for next to nothing, including a goodway combination microwave for 150 dollars..hahahaha. Washing machine already sold in 2 hours..!!

    PM me for more details.

Saw a flat in wanchai, yesterday. 3 bedrooms, 900 sq. ft, HKD7,500. Other selling points include :

    1) Great exercise! (top floor of a walk-up building)
    2) A genuine piece of Hong Kong's history (was built in the '60s and hasn't been refurbished since the handover)
    3) Cosmopolitan tenant mix (you may find your neighbours are from walks of life far removed from what you are used to)

The point is, though, that it's always worth walking around a few local agents to see what gems they might have. You can get some great $/sq. ft prices if you are prepared to make a few compromises. 7,500 could get you anything from a small studio to a 3 bedroom flat. Bear in mind, though, that if someone is offering a large flat for a low price, then there is probably a very good reason (or two, or three) for the lack of interest.
