    Looking for somewhere cheap?

I have a budget of 6,000$HK a month for rent. I need easy access to Shatin by public transport and want to live somewhere where I can go out quickly to eat, drink etc.

Ideally I want somewhere where flat shares are available. I was originally looking at Mong Kok but a few Chinese people in the UK I have spoken to have said air pollution is bad and its noisy 24hrs a day.

Are there any places that aren't in family dominated areas within my tiny budget?

Hung Hom -- closer to the train station, you can find places for under $6K; it's also convenient to TST and HK island (just walk to the tunnel bus stop and you can catch any bus passing through there). If you would prefer to share a flat, you can probably check out Harbour Place -- a 2BR tends to run ~8-11K there. Whampoa Estate and Whampoa Garden (or any of the buildings along Tak Man St/Wuhu Rd) may also suit you.

I disagree concerning the noise in Mong Kok. If your windows face the alley between buildings rather than the street, it's rarely (if ever) noisy. Additionally, those closer to Prince Edward Station and the Mong Kok East railway station are in quieter areas than those closer to the Mong Kok subway station. That said, the air pollution can be pretty bad there.
