Current rents in Tung Chung & Discovery Bay?

    Hello,
I am looking for current rental rates for 3bds/2 bath in Tung Chung or Discovery Bay (we need to stay near the airport). Just a ballpark figure, as I have no idea for comparison right now. I've done some searching but only found old info, and don't know if the ads are true indicators of what we should pay.

We've found serviced apts for $25K- does that sound right?

What is reasonable for a 1-year contract? I have been told most long-term flats are unfurnished.

You don't need to tell me your exact building or anything to protect your privacy. Appreciate any info you can share!

it really depends on your flat size (in sqf)

a 1500 sqf place in park island (25 min direct bus to airport every half an hour) costs probably between 32-36k/month.

Tung Chung is a lot cheaper than DB. You will get more for your money there, and it is closer to the airport.

But DB is really nice with the beach and greenery.

ok thanks! we were wondering if it was worth it to get a serviced apt, but it seems that it would be almost double the price.

You might also consider the Gold Coast - many cathay stewardesses and pilots live here - the bus takes exactly 25mins to Cathay City and 30mins to the aiport and goes at least once an hour (twice in peak hours).

Rents here are significantly lower then DB yet it is also a more open, western style environment.

1500sq ft SERVICED appt was 21k when I looked 2 years ago - probably about the same now (prices have gone up, down since then!). Non serviced is a little cheaper. But they have a website you can review for serviced appts (google gold coast hong kong); for non serviced approaching a local agent is probably cheaper.

You can probably get lower than that in Tung Chung. For 3 bd, 2 bath. We were paying 9,800 for 986sqm until recently. Though depending on the agency you use the cost is probably a fair estimate.

    Doesn't Gold Coast feel "isolated".
Apart from the odd bus route, it is hard to escape

Huh? The 'odd bus route'? There is a 962 every 10 mins or so to Causeway Bay, a 962B every 30 mins via Sham Tseng to Admiralty, a 140M every 5-7 mins to Tsing Yi MTR, a 141 every 30 mins to Tsuen Wan, a 61M every 10-15 mins to Li King, a 53 every 30 mins to Tsuen Wan via Sham Tseng and Tin Kau, a red minibus to Jordon every 2-3 minutes which goes via Mongkok, a 52X express to Mongkok, several versions of a 43 minibus to various outlying villages in the area and a 51K to the transport interchange near the hiway. That's just in ONE DIRECTION. They all go in the other direction to Tuen Mun or Yuen Long for connection to the MTR/light rail and ferries.

Not to mention if you live in Phase 1, 2 or the marina, you can use the resident buses non-stop to Tsuen Wan MTR, TST, Central and the Airport.

There is no 'sense of isolation' - just a sense of peace and quiet.
