Lake Silver, Beverly Hills, Constellation Cove, Deerhill Bay, Casa Marina

    Hi All,

We are narrowing down our choices of apartments now that we have school for our children all set. Just looking for any thoughts all of you may have in terms of accommodation for our situation.

    1. Children will be attending International Christian School.
    2. Husband's office is in Science Park
    3. We do not want to purchase a car.
    4. Would like to travel by train/bus with the children to school (ie: shuttle bus from apartment to train station)
    5. Relatively easy travel to/from grocery and shopping.

I know one place cannot provide everything but since I have only spent one week in Hong Kong, I wanted to hear from others that live this life everyday.

    Thanks in advance.

Sorry, where is ICS and where is Science Park?

Looking at the buildings you listed above, you might want to add "The Palazzo" to your list. It is on top of Fo Tan station which is very close to Sha Tin. It is a new development, has nice club house, etc.

I looked at Lake Silver once. It is nice, but very far away.

Lake Silver is the most accessible without a car as mtr is just next to it, but science park is a least 15mins walk from university mtr, frequent minibus from wu kai sha to university, also very quick takes only 10-15mins, but mtr takes around 25mins via tai wai.

beverly hill is very nice place, accessible via frequent minibus (think 22k) from tai mei tuk to tai po market around 15mins, also buses go there, but having a car is advantage, get really dark around that place.

constellation cove and deerhill bay is closest to science park, however, not many public transport go there ( red minibus goes past there, a few bus as well), thus not very accessible without car,

deerhill bay appears walkable to science park actually very close physically, but you have go through the long way via tai po rd - tai po kau section, thus, long detour, but there will be a new bridge connecting pak shek kok to ya king lane, currently being built now not sure when it will be completed, this will make deerhill bay walkable to science park

constellation cove and deerhill bay is furthest away to shops esp not much public transport goes through there, constellation cove and deerhill bay is really only advisable if you planning to drive.

not true. There is a 28K minibus which trundles between tai Po market station and Shatin City Hall every ten minutes. Other routes that go along Tai Po Rd include the 72 (Cheung Sha Wan to Tai Wo), 72A (Tai Wai to Tai Po Ind Est), 73A (Yui Chui Court to Choi Yuen) and the 74A (Tai Wo to Kwun Tong ferry).

So actually all the developments along that stretch of Tai Po Road (there are many) are well-served by frequent bus services, on top of their own shuttle bus services which tend to go to Tai Po Market station

72 (Cheung Sha Wan to Tai Wo), have you ever caught this bus? i have, takes 1.20hr to get from end to start, takes roughly 30 mins op's possibly place to get to tai woo, up to 20-25 mins wait.

72a (Tai Wai to Tai Po Ind Est) takes 1hr to get from end to start esp considering the short distance, again up to 20-25 mins wait.

73A (Yui Chui Court to Choi Yuen) i have caught this one as well, takes 1.30hr to get from end to start, again up to 25-30 mins wait.

74A (Tai Wo to Kwun Tong ferry), also a long time.

it's the geographic nature of the place and mode of transport, ie, large bus and relative steep hill of tai mo shan/mountain which makes the buses takes forever (around 15-25kmph) to get from a to b, however, the red minbus seems really fast to do 80km per hr due non peak times (a bit frightening).

I don't think the OP will ever need to catch any of these routes from start to end (and certainly not to Tai Wo), just the very small journey from Deerhill Bay to Tai Po, so listing the full journey time is misleading. The length of journey the OP would need to do is about 3.5 km from DHB and is less than 2 km from CC.

Yes, I've done all of these routes at one time or another because I used to make the journey to and from J.I.S (which is next door to Deerhill Bay) from Tai Po. I've never had to wait longer than 10 mins at the bus stop. The journey takes 5 minutes in a taxi and costs less than $30. The buses that do this route take between 10 - 15 minutes to get back into Tai Po (only 5 mins from CC)

Plus Deerhill Bay and Constellation Cove both have frequent (every 15 minutes?) shuttle bus to Tai Po Market Station.

Thank you everybody. I should have mentioned that husband will most likely grab a taxi to work. I am most interested in my needs (yes, I'm selfish that way)

ICS is located a block from the Shek Mun station.
