Smile Expected to Move to Hong Kong

I'm expected to Move to Hong Kong from San Francisco, Ca in either late August or early September to represent my companies interests in China.

    1) I need to find a cheap ($10,000 HKD or less) apartment.

    2) I know nothing of the residency laws, is there a web site or
can someone tell me what I need to know to be allowed to
    live in Hong Kong?

    3) My wife is not an American citizen (she is a citizen of the Russian Federation)... she also works for the same company, but will the ability to
become a temporary residency be effected in any way?

Any info / help any one can give or suggest, or point to a place where I may find out some answers to these questions (and perhaps more) would be so very much appreciated.

Especially any info on apartments near the China border (w/ broadband access) ......

    Konstantin

For visa and work permit, you should go to the HK immigration website. They have very detailed information on the subject. You will need a work visa to work in HK, your wife can get a dependent visa if she is not working. Check out the website:

HK$10000 is not a lot of money for a flat in Hong Kong. However, if you prefer to stay close to the border, then you can get a decent size apartment (around 600-700 sq ft) in towns along the railway line - such as Taipo, Fanling or Sheung Shui. The train ride to the border is less than 30 mins and the housing prices in those areas are much lower than the HK Island or the Kowloon town center. Choose a flat in one of the newer housing development and most of the time they have broadband access.

    Good luck
