    Typical outgoings

    Hi everyone,

Can anyone give me an idea of the cost of regular expenses that would be applicable for a single person (but not housing and "going out" as these are huge variables)?

For example, the monthly cost for electricity/gas/water; broadband; clear; laundry; travel and anything else anyone can think of.

    Thanks.

Costs vary widely depending on use. Some will use more and some will proudly announce they only spend a total of $29.90 a month on everything.

Electricity: $1000 (far less in winter)
    Gas: $100
    Water: negligible
Broadband: $300 (depends on plan, duration, etc.)
Clear: No idea what that it
Laundry: $30 for 6lb (we have a washer so I'm going by what the dry cleaner near us charges)
Travel: The string question. Depends on the type of transport used and the distance covered. The cheapest is the tram at $2. Taxi flagfall depends on area - HK island is $18.

A part-time cleaner will cost you about HK$60 per hour.
